Legal Clinic

Brief introduction of the Juvenile Delinquency Legal Clinic (Semester 2017-2018)

The Juvenile Delinquency Legal Clinic is designed for all the students in CUPL. The clinic is limited to around 45 students and the content mainly includes two parts: the on-campus theory lecture and off-campus practice.


1. Teacher


(1) Full-time teacher

a. Yu Guodan, Associate professor, Director of the Criminology Research Institute, School of Criminal Justice.

b. Wang Ping, Professor, School of Criminal Justice;

c. Wang Shunan, Professor, School of Criminal Justice;

d. Zhang Jianrong, Professor, School of Criminal Justice.


(2) Part-time teacher

a. Yao Pengling, vice-president of Beijing HaiDian Boarding School;

b. Ji Guangsheng, vice-president of juvenile court in DongCheng Peope’s Court;

c. Cao Xiaoying, judge of juvenile court in HaiDian People’s Court.


2. Practice and public service activity


In this semester, excepting for the theory lecture on campus, the clinic cooperates with several social institutes to actively carry out the practical teaching and public service activities, and these activities had achieved great social effects.


(1) Beijing HaiDian Boarding School

This semester, the clinic organized students to visit Beijing HaiDian Boarding School several times. Acting as social instructors, students from the clinic talked with the juveniles there, interviewed them, gave lectures and seminars to them. These activities enabled students from the clinic to have a close contact with the juvenile delinquent. Meanwhile, students from the clinic assisted the teachers there to conduct law education, psychological counseling and ethnic education, all of which had achieved great educational and social effects.


(2) Dongcheng People’s Court and Haidian People’s Court in Beijing

The clinic also cooperated with Dongcheng People’s Court and Haidian People’s Court in Beijing. Lawfully permitted, students observed and participated the trial of juvenile cases, which not only enabled students to have an overview of the juvenile justice, but also made them have the practical skills to deal with juvenile delinquency cases.


(3) Research Project

The clinic conducted a project “Research on the curriculum design of Juvenile Delinquency Clinic (NO.1041/23618119)” this semester.


(4) Academic Seminar

Based on the School of Criminal Justice, the clinic organized a seminar on “Multi-disciplinary Conversation on Juvenile Delinquency and Juvenile Justice”.


The theme of the seminar was “Juvenile Delinquency and Juvenile Justice” and it proposed to research juvenile delinquency issues from a multi-disciplinary perspective and called for effective conversation and communication. Experts and scholars attended this seminar came from the Supreme People’s Court, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the Juvenile Study Center of China, Provincial People's Court of Jilin, the Second Intermediate People’s Court of Beijing, Dongcheng People’s Court, Haidian People’s Court, Fengtai People’s Procuratorate, China University of Political Science and Law, Beijing Normal University, People's Public Security University of China, People's Police University of China, Capital Normal University, Shanghai University of Political Science and Law, Shenyang University of Technology, Hebei Vocational College of Politics and Law and Haidian Reformatory School.
